BEDROOM
Because we spend an average of 26 years of our lives asleep (and 7 years trying to get to sleep), it is important to make healthy choices in terms of what we have in our bedrooms.
Our indoor air can be up to five times more polluted than outside, so choosing the right paint, carpeting, and air purifier is very important. VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) are solvents that get released into the air (“off-gassing”) as paint dries (the “new paint smell…”). Your freshly painted bedroom can remain “toxic” for several months. Carpets, furniture, mattresses, and air freshener sprays all contribute to unhealthy indoor air.
Aware of the interest in preserving the environment while keeping our families healthy, many companies today are addressing these concerns and creating products that are organic, non-toxic, and having net-zero carbon emissions.
Mattresses, bed linens, pillows, and lighting are only a few of the items we surround ourselves with each night. Knowing that your bedroom choices are healthy, made from sustainable sources, and that ultimately they can be reused and recycled / composted will help you sleep better at night.
