GREENHOUSE GASES

The invisible problem

Inspired by the work of William Blake

Greenhouse Gases from human activities are the most significant driver of observed climate change since mankind’s voracious burning of fossil fuels for energy, dating back to the industrial revolution, began to create more greenhouse gases than the land and the oceans were able to absorb.

As greenhouse gas emissions from human activities have increased, they have built up in the atmosphere (the greenhouse effect)  and warmed the climate, ravaging ecosystems, raising sea levels and exposing millions of people to new weather extremes, not to mention accelerating disease and extinction to all forms of life.

William Blake (1757-1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Though largely unrecognized in his lifetime, Blake’s paintings and poetry have been highly praised for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical undercurrents and mysticism within his work. Despite being considered excentric by his contemporaries, he leaves behind a symbolically rich collection of works that embraced his visionary imagination.
